About this course

This course explores Picasso’s relationship with artistic tradition and avant-garde movements such as Cubism, Primitivism and Surrealism. It considers how he experimented with painting, sculpture and collage, alongside changes in subject and style. Teaching combines lectures, slide presentations and group discussion. These sessions examine the social and political events informing major works and consider Picasso’s influence on modernist artistic practice.
