About this course
The course examines Western art through successive periods, including the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo, Dutch Golden Age, Neo-Classicism, Romanticism and Realism. Paintings, sculpture and architecture are considered alongside key artists and the historical and cultural contexts in which they worked. Teaching combines lectures, slide presentations and group discussion, with handouts provided to support the material. The course also introduces the terminology used to describe artistic styles and periods.
