About this course

Participants examine glaze materials, finishes and application across different clay surfaces. Short lessons combine glaze theory with practical investigation, including how firing temperatures influence results, why glazes fail and how clay choice and making methods affect outcomes. Group activities and reflective discussions provide opportunities to compare findings and share existing knowledge. The course also introduces approaches to mixing glazes, developing tests and analysing results as part of an individual ceramics practice.

This mixed-level course is intended for clay practitioners who already have some knowledge of clay practice and an understanding of their own making process. Participation includes group activities, shared discussion and reflective learning alongside short taught sessions.

Before you go

• A notebook and pen are useful.
• Participants should bring their own apron and tools; the tutor can advise on which tools to purchase.
• Participants may bring their own pieces for glaze testing.
• Test results are fired twice during the course, with final results collected afterwards.
