About this course

Participants practise throwing and turning porcelain on the wheel, working on projects adapted to different ability levels. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, practical sessions, individual guidance and regular feedback linked to personal learning goals. The course also introduces historical and contemporary approaches to porcelain, with opportunities for group and individual discussion. It covers the material’s particular challenges, its potential with different glazes, and how porcelain is fired in a kiln.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for practitioners who already have some knowledge of throwing and is explicitly not aimed at beginners. Participants work both independently and alongside others, with demonstrations, discussion and individual tutor feedback. Ceramics involves moderate physical activity, including wedging and rolling out clay.

• Previous throwing knowledge is expected rather than beginner-level introduction

Before you go

• An apron or old shirt is required.
• A notebook and pen may be useful.
• The tutor will advise participants about tools to purchase.
• Clay is charged by weight and includes bisque and glaze firing.
• The ceramics studio has lift access.
