About this course

Participants work through the stages of textile screen printing, from cleaning, degreasing and coating a screen to preparing imagery and printing onto a T-shirt. The course covers hand-drawn marks, photographic images, basic image editing, ink mixing and curing, and differences between paper and textile printing. It also considers DIY screen printing and ways to print at home. Teaching combines demonstrations and examples with individual practical work, small-group activities, individual tutoring and group discussions.

  • Clean, degrease, coat and prepare a screen for printing
  • Create hand-drawn or photographic acetates suitable for screen printing
  • Mix inks and apply methods for curing them
  • Use techniques for printing on textiles
  • Explain key differences between printing on paper and textiles

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for all levels and explicitly welcomes learners without previous skills. Participation includes individual practical work alongside small-group activities, demonstrations, tutoring and group discussions.

  • Work is carried out both individually and in small groups.

Before you go

  • White T-shirts are provided in a range of adult sizes.
  • Learners may bring other-coloured T-shirts or tote bags if they wish to print on them.
