About this course

The session introduces two approaches to working with clay. Participants spend part of the class throwing on the wheel, then use hand-building techniques to make their own pieces. The teacher provides guidance throughout as learners work individually on their clay projects. Tools and clay are supplied, and selected finished pieces are glazed by the studio after they have dried.

What you'll learn

  • Use a pottery wheel to practise throwing clay
  • Apply hand-building techniques to construct pottery pieces

Is this course right for you?

The class is designed for complete beginners and does not require previous experience. It combines guided instruction with individual making within a group setting, with a maximum of nine participants.

  • Suitable for learners with no previous pottery experience
  • Includes both wheel work and hand-building in one session

  • Bring an apron and wear clothing that can get messy.
  • Short nails and tied-back hair are recommended.
  • Clay and all necessary tools are provided.
  • Firing is included for up to two pieces, with a combined weight of up to 500g.
  • The studio glazes the selected pieces using one of five studio glazes.
  • Finished pieces are expected to be ready for collection 3 to 5 weeks after the class and should be collected within 3 weeks of becoming ready.
