Textile Scrapbooks

About this course

Participants design and make a handmade album combining cloth and paper pages, with a spaced spine, stitched decorative covers and tie-tape or other fastening options. The workshop uses group and individual demonstrations, tutor and artist-made examples, and discussion to introduce basic processes and possible variations. Work is adapted to each participant’s intended use, whether for textile samples, project ideas or memorabilia. Technical notes are provided, and the processes can be repeated at home using ordinary household equipment and materials.

Is this course right for you?

The course is open to learners at all levels. Participants work on their own album while taking part in shared discussions and demonstrations, with individual guidance and examples available to suggest variations.

• Suitable for learners developing a personal textile sample book, project album or memorabilia album
• Workshop outcomes are adapted to each participant’s work or purpose

Before you go

• Bring a small selection of plain or textured cloth and decorative paper for the covers.
• Basic calico, cotton, good linen cloth and cartridge paper are available in the department.
• The studio is on the second floor, with partial disabled access via a stair lift.
