About this course

Participants explore batik as a resist-dye process, using hot wax, traditional tools and fabric dyes to make patterns, marks and figurative designs on natural fabrics. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, practical work, technical handouts and individual or group guidance. Discussion, show and tell, and an end-of-session group critique form part of the class, with regular tutor feedback throughout. The course also introduces traditional and contemporary batik practices and includes using the college steamer to fix colours.

  • An apron, notebook and pencil would be helpful to bring.
