Textiles: constructing pattern, colouring cloth

About this course

Participants develop textile designs from initial ideas and colour palettes into fabric samples or artwork. The course covers mark-making, hand-cut stencils, collage, layering and colour mixing, alongside heat-transfer methods including foil, flock and sublimation printing. Hand painting with disperse dyes and heat-transfer inks is also introduced. Teaching combines practical demonstrations with hand-outs, examples of textile samples and artists’ work, and opportunities for group discussion.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for beginners and learners with existing textiles or textile-print experience. No particular skills are required. Participants should be able to follow simple written and spoken instructions, take part in group discussion, and use basic numbers, measurements and calculations.
