About this course

The course explores kantha quilting through running-stitch arrangements, layering, patching and piecing. Participants investigate how stitch can communicate decorative or narrative ideas, then develop personal patterns and motifs for their own work. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical exercises, illustrated material, discussions and handouts. Tutorials are offered individually, in small groups and with the whole class. Beginners are introduced to basic recycling and kantha techniques, while more experienced participants can explore experimental approaches and visual narrative.

What you'll learn

  • Explain and apply different arrangements of running stitch used in kantha work
  • Use layering, patching and piecing techniques to combine fabrics or paper
  • Develop personal patterns and motifs for decorative or narrative stitching
  • Explore kantha quilting as a way to recycle and reuse materials
  • Produce a small quilt or a set of samples
