The Art of Storytelling

About this course

Participants examine storytelling across different historical periods, cultures and mediums, beginning with analysis of a master storyteller’s techniques. They then develop their own storytelling practice through performance, reflection and adjustment. The course explores how delivery, sound, language, dynamic referencing and frames affect the relationship between a story and its audience. Regular detailed feedback supports the refinement of individual work, while peer appraisal introduces constructive approaches to reviewing and reconstructing stories.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improver-level learners who have completed an Introduction to Storytelling course. Participation includes developing and presenting personal storytelling work, reflecting on it, and contributing to the appraisal of others’ work.

• Completion of the Introduction to Storytelling course is required.
• Regular attendance is expected to take part fully in the course.

Before you go

• Bring a notebook for making notes.
• Learners who require adjustments should discuss their needs with the tutor or Learning Support team. Some classrooms may be difficult to access for people with restricted mobility.
