About this course
The course places the Bloomsbury Group’s artistic achievements in the context of early twentieth-century Britain. It covers Roger Fry’s Post-Impressionist exhibitions, the Omega Workshops, Charleston, and the painting and design work of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, including their engagement with abstraction. Slide presentations and group discussions are used to examine the group’s origins, important works, social networks, art criticism and role in organisations such as the Contemporary Art Society and the London Artists’ Association.
