About this course

The course examines water as both a practical resource and a source of cultural, spiritual and political meaning. Topics range from ancient irrigation, reservoirs and aqueducts to trade, creation myths, sacred rituals, Taoist ideas of flow and modern questions about scarcity, justice and sustainability. Teaching combines illustrated presentations using maps, art and historical sources with discussion, collaborative tasks and case studies drawn from primary materials across different cultures and periods.
