About this course

The course considers the British Empire at its greatest extent and examines its development through topics including British involvement in India, the Boer War, Ireland, the World Wars and the Empire’s colonial administration. It also explores how education and sport helped transmit and shape imperial values in colonial societies. Teaching combines lectures with class discussions. Reading outside class is optional, and the course does not require attendance on the first part of the wider course cycle.
