About this course

The course examines how teapot bodies, galleries, lids and spouts are made to work together. Demonstrations cover throwing for volume and tension, using a throwing stick, producing multiple component options, and checking wall thickness and base depth through sectioning. Participants practise precision turning, joinery and attachment as the forms reach leather-hard stage. The course also covers fitting spouts for a drip-free pour, pulling balanced handles, drilling sieve holes and adding surface detail with gestural brushwork and Oxide Washes. A final group review considers the forms produced during the course.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for intermediate potters who are confident throwing consistent shapes and managing clay at different stages of dryness. Participation involves focused individual making, responding to demonstrations, troubleshooting forms and contributing to a group review.

• Some bisque-ware vessels, brushes and Oxide Washes are provided for the decoration demonstration and mark-making practice.
