About this course

Participants work at the pottery wheel to centre clay, pull it upwards and begin forming wheel-thrown pieces. The session is structured as an introductory taster for learners who want to try throwing without committing to a longer course.

What you'll learn

  • Centre clay on a pottery wheel.
  • Pull up clay to begin forming wheel-thrown pottery pieces.

Is this course right for you?

This class is designed for complete beginners, with no previous experience required. It takes place in a small group of up to three students, allowing participants to work at the wheel with guidance from the teacher.

  • Suitable for a first experience of wheel throwing.
  • Limited to three students per class.

Before you go

  • Bring an apron and wear clothing that can get messy.
  • Short nails and tied-back hair are recommended.
  • Clay and all tools needed for the workshop are provided.
  • Firing is included for up to two chosen pieces, with a combined weight of up to 500g.
  • The pieces will be glazed in a selected studio glaze after drying.
  • Finished pieces are expected to be ready for collection 3 to 5 weeks after the class and must be collected within 3 weeks of becoming ready.
