About this course
The course introduces ceramic making through tutor-led practical activity, workshops, discussion, critical analysis and practical development. Participants explore different clays, tools and surface materials, then work with techniques including wedging, pinching, coiling, slab building and mould making. Glazing and firing processes are also covered as part of the wider ceramic-making process. Studio safety forms part of the course, including appropriate protective garments, basic tool use and maintaining a clean workspace. Learners investigate materials, develop ceramic forms and discuss their work through constructive feedback and criticism.
