Ukulele Beginners

About this course

The class introduces ukulele technique through tutor demonstrations, explanations and regular feedback. Participants learn how to tune and hold the instrument, then practise chords, strumming patterns and melody playing through a range of songs and accompaniment styles. Group activities include singing while playing, combining melody with accompaniment, and working on arranged pieces. Learners may sometimes tackle unfamiliar material, with options to choose a suitable level of challenge. The course also introduces some forms of music notation, including song sheets and TAB.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for beginner ukulele players. Participation includes singing and playing songs, combining melody with accompaniment, and responding to tutor demonstrations and feedback. Learners may be asked to try unfamiliar material, while a simple part is always available and the level of challenge can be adjusted to some extent.

Before you go

• Bring a ukulele, including a soprano, concert, tenor or baritone model. Ukulele banjos are also accepted.
• Bring a tuner, pen or pencil, and notebook.
• All other materials are supplied by the tutor.
