About this course

The course develops healthy vocal production through systematic physical and vocal warm-ups, exercises and work on a range of songs. Participants explore resonance, projection, vocal range, agility, pitch control, posture, alignment and breathing, alongside interpretation and basic musicianship. Sessions include group and solo singing, with opportunities to sing to piano accompaniment and receive tutor and peer feedback. The repertoire also provides a basis for considering musical features and notation. Regular practice and tutor-set targets are used to support work between classes.

What you'll learn

  • Explain foundational aspects of how the voice works
  • Perform exercises that develop vocal range, agility and resonance
  • Apply principles of posture, alignment and breathing when singing
  • Identify ways to control vocal pitch and quality
  • Perform solo singing with greater awareness of listening and piano accompaniment
  • Identify basic musical features in the repertoire, including elements of musical notation

  • Suitable for singers returning after time away who want to regain vocal confidence and efficiency
  • Learners should be prepared to sing both individually and with a group
  • Regular practice between classes is encouraged
