About this course

The course covers watercolour, gouache, water-soluble pencils and crayons, brush and ink, with an emphasis on contemporary approaches. Practical projects explore paint handling and techniques including transparent washes, masking, wet-into-wet blending and dry brush. Teaching combines demonstrations, individual tuition, handouts and visual aids. Regular group reviews and discussions support consideration of colour theory, representational and abstract image-making, and historical and contemporary developments in water-based media.

  • Drawing paper, a tear-off palette, paper towel and a water container are provided at the workstation.
  • A list of materials needed for each week is provided at the start of the course.
  • The class is in a first-floor room with no lift access.
