Watercolour Painting Improvers

About this course

Participants refine watercolour control through wet-on-dry, wet-on-wet, glazing, layering, blending and brushwork. Guided exercises address colour mixing, light and shadow, texture, composition and design, with attention to creating depth and atmosphere. The course combines shorter studio studies with more developed compositions, including subjects such as landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, botanicals and portraiture. Learners also work on experimental approaches, finished paintings and a mini-portfolio of selected work.

• Build depth, tone and vibrancy through layering and glazing
• Mix nuanced colours for mood, atmosphere and harmonious compositions
• Use light, shadow, texture and contrast to add structure and detail
• Plan and complete developed watercolour paintings for a mini-portfolio
