Watercolour, Pen and Ink

About this course

Participants develop watercolour skills through washes, wet-into-wet brushwork, colour mixing, resists, glazing, lifting and spattering. The course also covers brush shapes, texture, composition and negative shape, using landscape, seascape and still-life themes as starting points. Pen and ink techniques are introduced later and combined with watercolour to create layered compositions. Teaching includes visual demonstrations, explanations, handouts, group discussions, practical activities and individual guidance. Learners receive verbal feedback through individual and whole-class reviews, with artwork recorded in sketchbooks or folders.

Before you go

• Participants need to bring their own watercolour paints, brushes and paper. The suggested paper is 300grm paper in a detachable A3 pad.
• An HB pencil, eraser and pencil sharpener are also required.
• The tutor reviews the materials needed in the first session.
• Learners are encouraged to bring resource materials for their own use.
