Wax Carving (1 Day)

About this course

The course introduces wax as a medium for jewellery design and explains how wax models relate to the lost wax casting process. Demonstrations cover approaches to carving and preparing a finished model for a caster, while participants develop one or two individual pieces through guided practice. The initial introduction is taught as a group, followed by individual advice tailored to each participant’s work. Casting the completed wax models is not part of the course.

Is this course right for you?

The course is labelled Beginner and is intended as an introduction to wax carving. It combines demonstrations with individual practice, so participants work on their own designs while receiving advice specific to their pieces. Learners should arrive with one or two ideas in a sketchbook or as a model and be ready to adapt them.

Before you go

• Tools and a wax selection pack are supplied.
• If working to specific dimensions, participants need to supply those dimensions.
• Needle rasps, rasps, coarse files or engraving and lino-cutting tools may be useful to bring if available.
• Participants should bring one or two ideas in a sketchbook or as a model.
• Suitable clothing and closed footwear are required for health and safety reasons.
