About this course
The course examines how writers including Winckelmann, Burke, Baudelaire and Greenberg shaped or interpreted Neo-Classicism, Romanticism, Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism. Learners will study artworks through formal and subject analysis, while considering the artistic, social and political contexts surrounding both the works and their theorists. Teaching combines lectures, slide presentations, activities and group discussions, with handouts provided to support the sessions.
