About this course
Participants learn to dance together in a group setting, developing rhythm, coordination and the lead-and-follow dynamic from the beginning. Teaching covers four styles: waltz, tango, jive and cha-cha, giving couples a foundation for adapting basic movements to a chosen song or dancing socially at a wedding reception. The course is intended as foundational preparation before any further work on a bespoke wedding dance, although it can also be taken by couples who simply want to learn partner dancing together.
What you'll learn
- Perform foundational steps in the waltz, tango, jive and cha-cha
- Coordinate movement with a partner using lead-and-follow principles
- Identify and respond to the rhythm of different dance styles
- Adapt basic dance movements to a chosen song
Is this course right for you?
The course is designed for couples, including those with zero previous experience, and is taught through progressive group sessions with other beginners. It may suit people preparing for a wedding as well as couples learning partner dancing for other reasons.
Before you go
- Wear comfortable everyday clothing that allows movement.
- Smooth-soled shoes or clean trainers are recommended. Leaders may find shoes with a slight heel helpful, although comfort is prioritised.
