Printmaking

Beginner

A beginner printmaking course covering blocks, plates and prints through demonstrations, studio practice, group discussion and individual guidance.

About this course

Participants work through a varied programme of printmaking activities, creating blocks and plates before producing prints. Sessions combine making and printing with time to develop considered working methods and individual projects, while excluding lithography. Teaching includes demonstrations, presentations, technical guidance, critical feedback and discussions about process and other participants’ work. Learners work both as a group and with individual one-to-one support, with occasional collaborative activity and a life-drawing session.

What you'll learn

  • Create printmaking blocks, plates and prints using processes covered on the course
  • Operate relevant printmaking equipment and follow workshop safety procedures
  • Develop printmaking skills through technical practice and critical decision-making
  • Contribute to critiques and discussions about printmaking techniques and work
  • Develop an individual print-based project

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners, and no previous printmaking experience is necessary. An interest in or experience of drawing or design may be useful. Teaching alternates between group activity and individual guidance, with some collaborative work.
