Wednesday Etching

About this course

Participants develop an etching practice through hard- and soft-ground methods, aquatint, sugar lift and white ground. Work takes place in a fully equipped intaglio print room, with facilities for etching, collograph and monoprint. The course combines an introduction to core processes with opportunities to develop work across different levels of experience.

The course is intended for artists, creatives and image-makers at all levels, including beginners. The all-levels format suggests that learners can approach the techniques from different stages of experience.

Before you go

• Wear an apron or old clothes.
• Bring ideas and source material, basic drawing materials, an eraser, and a nylon sable-type brush between sizes 2 and 6.
• Optional tools include a dry point or etching needle, burnisher, magnifying glass and scraper.
• A fully equipped intaglio print room is provided.
• Plates and paper can be bought in the print room.
• A further materials list is provided a week before the course begins.
