About this course
The course develops wheel-throwing and turning techniques using porcelain clay, with projects adapted to learners’ ability levels. Demonstrations are followed by practical sessions and individual guidance, supported by group and one-to-one discussions. Teaching also covers historical and contemporary approaches to porcelain, common challenges when working with the material, and its potential with different glazes. Regular tutor feedback relates both to the course content and to learners’ personal goals.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for learners who already have some experience using the wheel and is not aimed at complete beginners. New and returning students work alongside one another, with projects adjusted to ability level. Wheel throwing and wedging involve a moderate level of physical activity.

- Some previous wheel experience is expected
- Requires moderate physical fitness for wheel throwing and wedging
Before you go
- Bring an apron or old shirt.
- A notebook and pen may be useful.
- The tutor will advise on tools to purchase.
- Clay includes bisque and glaze firing.
- The studio has lift access. Learners with concerns such as back problems can discuss these with the tutor.
