About this course

The course combines outdoor photography in Richmond Park with an online opportunity to review images afterwards. Learners observe and photograph Red and Fallow deer, including moving subjects, while working with natural light and considering animal welfare. Teaching covers camera settings for wildlife work, including depth of field, perspective and focusing, alongside approaches to stalking animals and photographing action. The workshop also addresses precautions for photographers and the safety and welfare of the animals being photographed.

Is this course right for you?

This improver-level course is intended for photographers with a basic understanding of exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, lenses and manual camera settings. Participation takes place outdoors while observing and photographing wild animals, with learners working in a group of up to eight.

  • Designed for learners developing beyond fundamental camera controls
  • Limited to eight participants

Before you go

  • A mirrorless, DSLR or compact camera with full manual controls is required. A camera may be borrowed if arranged with the provider in advance.
  • Bring the camera manual, a fully charged battery and an empty memory card.
  • Comfortable shoes are recommended.
  • A range of focal-length lenses from 70–200mm is recommended. An external flash may be useful for some classes if already owned.
