Women, Caste and Power

About this course

The course examines how caste, class, gender and patriarchy shape access to power, land, resources and decision-making for marginalised women in India. Topics include customary institutions, welfare programmes, inclusive policies, eco-feminism, environmental activism and local governance through Panchayats. Teaching is based on interactive lectures with opportunities for questions. Regional case studies are used to consider differing challenges and the contribution of women to social movements, grassroots democracy and regional politics.
