About this course

The course considers how film contributes to ageist stereotypes and the under-representation of older women, using research, studies and reports as a starting point. Participants will watch and discuss international short films that place older women at the centre of their stories, considering how writing, production and direction can shape representations of ageing. Teaching combines tutor presentations, screenings, group discussion and a practical Women Over Fifty Film Festival selector exercise. Participants will use the festival’s criteria to rate films with a scorecard and discuss their assessments with the class.
