About this course

Participants develop an original wooden furniture project from initial ideas to more finished scale drawings, considering the nature and structure of timber as part of the design process. Demonstrations introduce simple joint cutting with hand and power tools, including saws and chisels, followed by practical exercises to apply these techniques. Teaching combines individual guidance, regular feedback and a Personal Learning Plan with opportunities to discuss ideas and share work in the group.

What you'll learn

  • Cut simple joints using hand and power tools.
  • Describe relevant properties and structures of timber when developing a furniture design.
  • Develop a furniture concept through sketches and scale drawings.
  • Apply basic woodworking techniques during the construction of an original project.
