Woodwork – Intermediate / Advanced

About this course

Participants plan and develop an individual woodworking project, working from drawings, measurements and design decisions through to completion. The course covers the use of hand and machine tools, further woodworking techniques and ways to apply these skills to current or future projects. Tutor guidance, individual verbal feedback and a Personal Learning Plan support the development of project goals. Sessions also include discussions and informal group critiques, where participants share work and respond to constructive feedback. Projects may include furniture, sculptures or other personal designs.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for experienced learners working on independent woodworking projects and developing beyond fundamental techniques. Participants work individually with tutor guidance, contribute to discussions and take part in informal group critiques. Some prior knowledge of art materials, tools and techniques is required, and learners are expected to aim for full attendance and punctuality.

Before you go

• The college provides tools, although learners are encouraged to purchase a small selection of essential hand tools for their own use.
• Learners must provide the timber for their projects; advice on suitable suppliers is provided.
• Non-slip, closed footwear and a protective apron are strongly recommended. Gloves may be appropriate depending on the materials used.
