About this course
The course examines how memoir writers choose material and shape it into chapters, with attention to language and structure. Participants develop extracts for their own memoirs and test their writing through exercises and workshopping. Teaching combines formal instruction with pair and group activities, giving learners opportunities to discuss and develop their work. The focus is on selecting effective autobiographical material and applying techniques that suit the memoir genre.

Although labelled Beginner, this is a continuation course intended for learners who have studied an introductory memoir course or have other experience of autobiographical writing. Participation includes pair and group work, writing exercises and workshopping, so learners should be prepared to discuss and develop their writing with others.
