About this course
Participants examine how eco-poetry differs from nature poetry and consider its role during the climate crisis. The course explores writing about interactions between human and non-human worlds, including work in the voices of threatened species and responses to natural objects. Teaching combines tutor instruction, text analysis, individual, pair and group activities, in-class writing, and workshop discussion. Participants experiment with different poetic forms, produce new drafts, and receive feedback on their eco-poetry.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for beginners in poetry, including people trying it for the first time or sharing their writing in a group for the first time. Participation includes individual, pair and group work, along with discussing drafts in an open and constructive workshop.
- Open to learners who have not previously shared their writing in a group.
- Workshop participation involves receiving and offering constructive feedback.
Before you go
- Bring a pen and paper, or something else to write with.
- Learners are encouraged to alert the tutor and classmates in advance if shared writing contains potentially sensitive material.
