About this course

The course introduces the main factors that shape wine styles, with coverage of key grape varieties including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah/Shiraz. Participants taste nine wines and use the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting® to describe them, then apply key principles in a food and wine pairing exercise. Teaching also covers wine service, storage and common faults. Assessment is through a 30-question multiple-choice examination, with a 70% pass mark for the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.
