About this course

The course introduces the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT), using nine wines to compare different types and styles. It covers the characteristics of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah/Shiraz, alongside the main considerations for food and wine matching. Classroom teaching also examines wine service, storage and common faults. A practical pairing exercise forms part of the day, followed by a 30-question multiple-choice examination. A mark of 70% is required to pass, and successful students receive a digital WSET certificate.

This course is intended for learners with little or no previous experience of wine or wine tasting. The Beginner label indicates an introductory level. Participation combines classroom teaching, guided tastings, a food-and-wine pairing exercise and a formal multiple-choice assessment.
