About this course
The course examines how vineyard conditions and winemaking choices affect wine style and quality, with coverage of key international grape varieties, regional styles, sparkling and fortified wines. Participants taste 40 wines and use the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting to assess and describe them. Further topics include food and wine matching, wine storage and service, common faults, and interpreting labels. Teaching takes place in the classroom, supported by structured online study materials, and concludes with a multiple-choice examination.

However, the provider notes that the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines may be more suitable for people who are completely new to wine. Participants should be prepared for guided tastings, classroom learning, independent study and an examination.
