What Beginner (A1) Mandarin means

At A1 Mandarin, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

About this course

The course establishes foundations in Chinese pronunciation through Pinyin training and introduces 50 essential written characters, including some context about their history. Lessons combine spoken practice with everyday communication topics such as greetings, nationalities, numbers, family, work, phone numbers, birthdays and weekly routines. Grammar covers basic sentence structures, question forms, and introductory uses of 是, 有 and 在, as well as adjectives and adverbs. Conversation practice is included throughout the lessons.
