About this course
The course develops spoken Chinese through situations including travel planning, buying tickets, hotel check-in and asking for directions. Lessons continue to use Pinyin while introducing approximately 50 Hanzi, with methods for remembering the characters introduced in earlier study. Grammar work covers verb complements, with particular attention to result complements, as well as using 的 to modify nouns, 离 for distances, several ways to express approximate numbers and methods for joining sentences.
What you'll learn
- Handle conversations related to travel planning, ticket purchases, hotel check-in and asking for directions.
- Use verb complements, including result complements, in Chinese sentences.
- Modify nouns with 的 and express distance using 离.
- Express approximate numbers using 多, 几 and 左.
- Recognise and learn approximately 50 introduced Hanzi.
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for learners who have completed beginner-level Chinese or can already pronounce Pinyin confidently, recognise basic Hanzi and manage basic conversation. The Elementary (A2) label indicates a stage beyond fundamental beginner study.
- A starting knowledge of roughly 300 or more vocabulary items is described as ideal.
- Learners should have some understanding of verb aspects.
- The course continues to use Pinyin while extending Hanzi knowledge.
