About this course

Lessons develop reading fluency through short Chinese texts presented without Pinyin, with consolidation rather than new Hanzi instruction as the main focus. Conversation practice uses real-life story topics: learners watch a story told by a native speaker, then prepare and tell their own versions. Grammar work reviews result and directional verb complements, and introduces possibility complements, rhetorical questions and flexible uses of interrogative pronouns. The course combines guided language review with repeated opportunities to apply these structures in spoken storytelling.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners at Intermediate (B1) level who have developed a substantial Chinese vocabulary and can already read some Hanzi without Pinyin. Participation includes observing a native-speaker story and telling personal stories in response, alongside focused grammar review.

• Designed for learners with knowledge of 800 or more Chinese words.
• Learners are expected to be able to read more than 200 Hanzi without Pinyin.
• The course focuses on consolidating existing Hanzi rather than introducing new characters.
