What Beginner (A1) Japanese means

At A1 Japanese, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

About this course

The course introduces Japanese through Hiragana, with learners working towards reading all 46 characters and practising natural pronunciation. Everyday topics include greetings, self-introductions, numbers, time, shopping, travel plans and describing whereabouts. Lessons also introduce basic sentence structure, pronouns and possession, the -desu and -masu forms, and basic verbs. Conversation practice is included throughout, with a review and presentation session consolidating the material.
