What Beginner (A1) Korean means

At A1 Korean, learners are beginning to use familiar words and simple sentences in predictable everyday situations.

  • Introduce yourself

    저는 안나예요. 런던에 살아요.

    My name is Anna. I live in London.

  • Order in a café

    커피 한 잔 주세요.

    A coffee, please.

  • Ask for directions

    실례합니다. 기차역이 어디예요?

    Excuse me, where is the railway station?

About this course

The course develops Korean communication around familiar situations and interests, including favourite foods, hobbies, shopping plans, shopping experiences, directions and transport. Learners also practise discussing clothing and using basic adjectives. Teaching combines themed speaking activities with grammar study, revision lessons and presentations. Grammar includes 못, 도, -(으)ㄹ 거예요, formal sentence and question endings, (으)로, and -아요/어요 for requests.

  • Give and understand directions and discuss means of transport.

Is this course right for you?

This Beginner (A1) course is intended for learners who already know at least 200 Korean vocabulary items and can respond to basic questions about daily life, hobbies, weather and food. The course suits learners developing beyond fundamental language knowledge through themed speaking practice, review and presentations.
