About this course

The course explores advanced hand-building and wheel-throwing alongside surface decoration and glazing. Each session introduces a different technique, with time set aside for practice and experimentation with clay. Participants can set their own pace within a focused learning environment, using the sessions to extend existing pottery skills and try new approaches.

What you'll learn

  • Apply advanced hand-building techniques
  • Develop wheel-throwing skills
  • Experiment with surface decoration
  • Use glazing techniques to finish ceramic work

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for intermediate-level makers who have completed at least a 12-week pottery course with the provider or an equivalent course elsewhere. The pace is adaptable, with participants expected to spend time practising and experimenting with clay. Attendance at the first two sessions is especially encouraged because they are difficult to catch up on.

  • Previous pottery study equivalent to a 12-week course is required
  • Suitable for learners developing beyond fundamental techniques
  • The pace allows for focused practice and experimentation
  • The first two sessions are difficult to catch up on if missed

Before you go

  • Materials are provided, including buff stoneware clay, tools, slips, moulds and studio glazes.
  • Wear clothes that can get dirty; participants may bring their own apron.
