27 glazing & firing classes in London

If you are completely new to pottery, start with a beginner taster, hand-building workshop or introduction to wheel throwing. Hand-building is often the gentlest first step because you shape the clay directly rather than learning to control a pottery wheel straight away. If you want to try the wheel, choose a class clearly labelled as beginner-friendly or introductory.

Choose wheel throwing if you want to learn how bowls, cups and vases are made on a spinning wheel. Choose hand-building if you want a slower, more flexible class using techniques like pinch pots, coils and slabs. For absolute beginners, hand-building is usually easier to start with, while wheel throwing can feel more technical but very satisfying once it clicks.

Look for a short pottery taster, one-off workshop or beginner-friendly session where materials and firing are included. These classes are usually designed for people who want to try pottery without committing to a longer ceramics course.

Usually not. Pottery normally needs to dry, be fired in a kiln, glazed and sometimes fired again before it is ready. Some providers include collection later, while others charge separately for firing or glazing, so check the class details before booking.
