Frequently asked questions

I’m a complete beginner. Which acting class in London should I start with?

If you are completely new to acting, start with a beginner acting class, acting taster, introduction to acting or confidence-focused drama class. These classes are usually designed for adults with little or no experience and help you learn basic acting exercises, voice, movement, character work and scene work in a low-pressure setting.

Should I choose stage acting, screen acting or general acting first?

Choose general acting if you are new and want a broad introduction. Choose stage acting if you are interested in theatre, voice projection, live performance and working with scripts. Choose screen acting if you want to learn acting for camera, close-up work, self-tapes and more naturalistic performance. For most complete beginners, a general acting class is the safest first step.

What is the easiest acting class if I just want to try it once?

Look for an acting taster, one-day workshop or short beginner class. These are usually better than a long course if you want to try acting without committing to several weeks. A good first class should clearly say it is suitable for beginners or people with no previous acting experience.

Are acting classes good for confidence?

Yes. Acting classes can help with confidence because they give you practice speaking, listening, using your body, expressing emotion and responding to other people in the moment. A beginner-friendly acting class can be especially useful if you want to become more comfortable being seen, heard and present in a room.

Do I need to audition before joining an acting class?

Most beginner and recreational acting classes do not require an audition. Auditions are more common for professional training, advanced courses, drama school programmes or performance projects. Check the class level and entry requirements before booking.

How many acting classes are currently listed on Learn.London?

Which London providers offer acting classes?

Can I find evening or weekend acting classes on Learn.London?

Yes. Learn.London currently lists 8 evening acting classes and 12 weekend acting classes in London. Use the day and time columns to compare acting classes that fit around work, study or other commitments.

Can I compare acting classes by price, location and duration?

Yes. The acting classes table lets you compare classes by price, location, provider, level, type, start date, day, time and duration. Prices currently range from £139 to £250, based on the classes listed on Learn.London.

How do I use the table to find the most suitable acting class?

Start by filtering for your level, then narrow the table by acting type, day, time, location, price and duration. This helps you quickly separate beginner acting classes from screen acting, stage acting, improvisation, audition preparation, voice classes and longer performance-based courses.
