13 theatre acting classes in London

If you are completely new to acting, start with a beginner acting class, acting taster, introduction to acting or confidence-focused drama class. These classes are usually designed for adults with little or no experience and help you learn basic acting exercises, voice, movement, character work and scene work in a low-pressure setting.

Choose general acting if you are new and want a broad introduction. Choose stage acting if you are interested in theatre, voice projection, live performance and working with scripts. Choose screen acting if you want to learn acting for camera, close-up work, self-tapes and more naturalistic performance. For most complete beginners, a general acting class is the safest first step.

Look for an acting taster, one-day workshop or short beginner class. These are usually better than a long course if you want to try acting without committing to several weeks. A good first class should clearly say it is suitable for beginners or people with no previous acting experience.

Yes. Acting classes can help with confidence because they give you practice speaking, listening, using your body, expressing emotion and responding to other people in the moment. A beginner-friendly acting class can be especially useful if you want to become more comfortable being seen, heard and present in a room.

Most beginner and recreational acting classes do not require an audition. Auditions are more common for professional training, advanced courses, drama school programmes or performance projects. Check the class level and entry requirements before booking.
